Along the route

Stage 1: Prato - Artimino

The Medici aura envelops and enchants at the start, showing us two of the most evocative historical-architectural and landscape jewels of the entire route, the Cascine by Lorenzo de' Medici, a model of agricultural production of absolute avant-garde for the time, and the Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano, symbol of magnificence and dominion of the ruling house, now a UNESCO heritage site. A clear mark bearing the signature of the Medici family and their harmonious vision of the landscape and territory. Along the way we will also get to know the most ancient inhabitants of these places, the Etruscans!

Stage 2: Artimino - Bacchereto

From Artimino to Bacchereto along the ridge of Montalbano, following the traces of a very long history which, from the Etruscan settlements, passing through the beautiful Romanesque abbeys, leads to the splendid Medici Villa La Ferdinanda.

Stage 3: Bacchereto - Vinci

During the third stage you can breathe the air of the genius, the great Leonardo da Vinci, who was born in these lands. You can not miss a visit at his birthplace and the Museum dedicated to him, a stop that will tickle the curiosity of young and old hikers!

Stage 4: Vinci - Fucecchio

Another beautiful Medici Villa awaits us, the Villa of Cerreto Guidi, a UNESCO heritage site, another fundamental stage of the route. Continuing towards Fucecchio you can admire one of the very few Italian marshlands, the Padule, where the Medici implemented another decisive territorial policy. In fact Cosimo I commissioned the hydraulic scientists at his service to organize the water of the lake to make it a vast basin reserved for fishing.

La Magia Ring - Quarrata

This ring detour enriches the visit and will surely repay the effort for those who have decided to reach another Medici jewel, Villa La Magia of Quarrata.

Capraia and Montelupo Ring

Another ring, this time south of the Route, enriches it - with a small additional effort - with the possibility of visiting two historic villages, Capraia e Limite and Montelupo Fiorentino, famous all over the world for their ceramic production.
